There are only a few things in life that matter. No one is able to make every single person or event in his/her life important. If everything or everyone were important, nothing would be.
We choose what matters to us. Unfortunately, we do not usually make rational decisions when choosing what is important. Until the moment that we are able to understand what we want of our lives, we would just live in delusion.
Every person is like a package. They come with different personalities, different values, and different beliefs. We unconsciously associate with whoever that has whatever we value. That's the reason why people say "friends choose you", not "you choose them". It is only when we shape our own values first, that we will attract the kinds of friends who hold similar values to us.

Everyone wants to feel important in this world. Everyone wants to feel recognised, appreciated, and loved for who they are. They want to be important in people's lives. They want to matter to someone.
